Star Wars: The Acolyte: “Day” | TV Review

I was left on the edge of my seat at the end of “Day”, the latest episode from The Acolyte. Star Wars is on a roll.

Everyone is converging on Khofar in the hunt for Kelnacca. Mae and Qimir arrive first and set out, and Qimir just happens to know exactly where to go to find him because he’s apparently scouted ahead? Then, the Jedi show up with a tracker named Bazil and have to ask for directions from locals.

Now, before I go any further, let’s talk about Bazil. Oh my gods, this is the cutest little creature/person/species. What a fantastic addition to Star Wars. After the first episode we had the Yord Horde spring up, and I think we now have Bazil Buddies.

Mae sets a trap for Qimir and catches him in a snare. She tells him that now that she knows Osha is alive, she’s just going to turn herself into the Jedi and tell them everything she knows. And she runs off in search of Kelnacca to surrender.

Okay, now, I’ve seen some people say that this seems like a sudden change. I get that. It does come pretty abruptly; however, it makes sense, and they did foreshadow it a little bit. But it’s Star Wars, so these big changes do historically come very quickly.

Meanwhile, Sol tells Osha that once they capture Mae, he will sit them down and “tell them everything”. Y’all, something really messed up Brendok. I can’t wait to find out what it is.

The Jedi show up to Kelnacca’s house/crashed ship shortly after Mae has find the Wookiee’s body. He’s been killed by a lightsaber. Uh oh. Mae knows what happened. The “Master” has beaten them all to Kelnacca and killed him.

I think “Darth Teeth” floating down from behind Osha may have been the creepiest thing that I’ve ever seen in Star Wars. With them slightly out of focus, it truly felt like we were watching Michael Myers in a Halloween movie.

Jecki: “What is that?”

For a split second, I was convinced that they killed Osha. When the red lightsaber illuminated, I was sure that it was going to be through her, similar to Kylo Ren’s through Han Solo. It wasn’t, but the way that the Sith just heaved her like a ragdoll with barely the flick of the wrist was nuts. Just an incredible display of power.

I’m currently in the middle of reading Temptation of the Force by Tessa Grafton which is the latest book in The High Republic publishing initiative. I love this time period.

Also, minor background cameos! Yes, that was Ki-Adi Mundi. No, that was not Plo Koon (It was Ithia Paan.)

The Acolyte has been checking boxes of what I love about Star Wars. After this week’s cliffhanger, I can’t wait to see what happens next week.
