Star Wars: The Acolyte: “Night” | TV Review

When I sat down in front of my TV to watch this week’s episode of The Acolyte, I thought I was prepared for what was to come. Beware. Spoilers within.

Based on the abrupt ending of last week’s episode, this week obviously would pick up right in the middle of the lightsaber fight that was clearly about to happen.

The “Red Shirt Jedi” all went pretty quickly, as expected. Honestly, a couple of them lasted longer than I thought they would.

The fight against the darkside user — later revealed to be Qimir, as most suspected — was fantastic. I can’t speak highly enough of all of the fighting in this episode. It helped that Manny Jacinto was delightfully creepy.

And now, let’s poor one out for the homies Jecki and Yord. Both deaths were so unexpected that I yelled “No!” at the TV when they occurred. Qimir snapping his red lightsaber into two separate blades a la early Clone Wars Ahsoka was awesome. It’s a shame that Jecki ended up worth the lightsaber puncture wounds on her chest. I was stunned. Her death was so unexpected for me. It was a hell of a way to go out though, as her fight scenes in this one were terrific.

As for the Yord Horde… Woof. That’s a hard one to take. I don’t know how far down on the list “Qimir snaps Yord’s neck to kill him.” was in my expectations, but it was low. Easily one of the most brutal deaths that I can remember in Star Wars

Admittedly, I’m not a huge fan of the old switcheroo that Mae did at the end of the episode. My hope will be that it is found out very soon by Sol, but we’ll see and make our judgements when it happens.

Overall, I loved this episode. Maybe the most brutal 30 minutes is Star Wars ever which wasn’t on my bingo card.
