I went to see Deadpool & Wolverine on opening weekend, and I had a great time. I think the movie hit a perfect spot for me with the comedy, action, and heart.
I’m going to hit on some spoilers here, so if you haven’t seen the movie yet, don’t keep reading. The movie’s only been out a week at this point, so I don’t expect that everybody has seen it.
For me, Wolverine’s story in this movie was a little bit better than Deadpool’s, but I really liked both. Still though, the pain in Hugh Jackman’s eyes when they are arguing in the car (before they fight) is just fantastic. He was so moving throughout.
When I rewatched the first two Deadpool movies recently, some of the humor has not held up well at all… Especially in the first movie. I thought this movie really nailed it with a lot less topical humor. I think the jokes are the first Deadpool movie, especially, are very 2016.
Deadpool & Wolverine manages to be funny through jokes, plot, and cameos. It’s a delicate balance to strike, but this crew nailed it. Hit me back up in 6-8 years, and we will see if it holds up.
The action was tremendous
Now, let’s talk about those main cameos. The big ones (Chris Evans’ Johnny Storm, Dafne Keen’s X-23, Jennifer Gardner’s Elektra, Wesley Snipe’s Blade, and Channing Tatum’s Gambit) were great and contributed to move the story forward.
Obviously, as you can see from this review, I highly recommend you go see Deadpool & Wolverine. It’s a great comic book movie.
