Strangely, I never went to see the Dune: Part One movie when it came out in theaters. I was really excited when the movie was announced, and I thought that the trailer looked great. I just never made the commitment in the fall of 2021 to get out to the theater to go see it. But, I finally saw it.
More than two years after the theater lease, I wanted to catch Part One before Dune: Part Two comes out in a month. I sat down and watched the movie from my couch recently, and I feel like I should’ve loved it more than I actually did. I did enjoy the movie, but I didn’t love it. And, I think it’s because the movie was really just the set up for a full story.
Confession: I’ve never actually read the book by Frank Herbert, but I do have plans to rectifiy that at some point.
There’s a lot that I liked about it. I thought everyone in the cast was great. I thought the movie looked amazing. The story was solid even if it was mostly set-up for the future Part Two.
I think my biggest dislike of the movie was that there were times that I didn’t understand exactly what was happening during discussions of prophecy and religions. I remember at one point wondering if I missed a part of the movie when they were talking about something.
Like I said though, I liked the movie, and I believe that once Part Two comes out then I will appreciate this Part One more than I did. It’s a movie on a grand scale that we don’t get very much anymore.
Anyway, here’s the trailer for Part Two. I’ll get into the theater to see this one.
