Halo season 2 opener is best of series to date

When I was previewing the new season of Halo, I mentioned that while I didn’t think season one was great (or even good at times), I was at least entertained. When the announcement was made for a season two, I was legitimately shocked, because I had assumed the general consensus was that the first season would just be memory-holed for ever.

But, I’m going to tell you right now that the first fifteen minutes of Halo season two were better than everything offered by the first season combined. The use of the handheld cams were very evident, and the action felt like I would expect Halo action to feel.

For the first time in this series, it didn’t feel like a cheap SyFy show! Progress! It does help that the Covenant were mostly kept in the “fog of war”.

As for the rest of the episode, it was again just okay. To be completely honest with you, I’m struggling to get invested in the Soren (Bokeem Woodbine) storyline, but I like where we left him at the end of episode one is a good start. Depending on where they go with him, I can get into it.

I also really like everything that Pablo Schreiber does as Master Chief. I think he’s the best part of this show, and I’m glad to continue to explore his journey.

They’re really hyping up episode four of this second season, so I’m excited to see where we are going from here. I will commit to finishing the show, as long as they are making it.
