I watched the first episode of Hazbin Hotel on Amazon Prime, and I loved it. The show is billed as “An R-rated, animated musical comedy set in Hell.“, and it certainly delivered that. I had a great time and plan to keep watching the show.
The episode opened with an explainer to set up the world of the show in a minimalist animation style. Lucifer, cast out of hell, and Lilith, Adam’s first wife who was banished for not obeying him, have a daughter named Charlie Morningstar. Hell is overpopulated, and there is an annual purge where Adam leads the angels to hell to slaughter the demons. Charlie wants to create a rehabilitation facility where demons can then get access to Heaven. Enter: The Hazbin Hotel.
To be completely honest with you, I had no idea that the show was a musical until about halfway through this episode. I wanted to check the show out based on the brief description and animation style that I saw. The songs are hilarious and so well done. I can’t speak highly enough about what this cast and crew have done here.
I won’t be doing an episode-by-episode review of the show, but I will swing back by at the end of the season to give my full thoughts on things. You should check it out in the meantime.
Creator Vivienne “VivziePop” Medrano has a fantastic show on her hands. Season 2 has already been confirmed, and I can’t wait to see what they have in store.
