We finally got a ride to watch the most recent Hunger Games movie, and I have to say that I didn’t like it as much as the other ones. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes was honestly kind of boring.
It’s not that I dislike the story of this movie, but I think it just struggled with the main narrative. I get that they’re trying to tell a story of how a bad guy becomes a bad guy, but I never really cared for Tom Blyth’s portrayal of a young President Snow. It just didn’t work for me.
Plus, I never knew his name was Coriolanus Snow. I couldn’t stop chuckling to myself whenever they said it.
Also, I really did not dig Rachel Zegler’s performance at all. At any point. She didn’t work for me at all, and her Southern accent was borderline insulting.
Francis Lawrence directed this one like the last three movies in the original Hunger Games saga. Can he direct a Constantine sequel and make me happy?
My assumption is that Suzanne Collins will write more of these books and they’ll continue to make the movies based on them. I’m sure I’ll like some of them more than this one, and I’m sure some of them will be worse.
Like I said, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes just didn’t work for me, and I was a little bummed. Hopefully, by the time the eventual sequel comes out, I’ll have a better time than I did with this one.
