I wasn’t like you, sweetheart. I was you. | Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 3 review

I got to watch the newest episode of Percy Jackson and the Olympians titled “We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium” a couple of days late this week. The kid and I had another good time watching, and we can’t wait for next week.

We get right into Percy selecting his team for his quest, and he picks Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood. They make sense as his choices, and friction starts to develop between the trio. Trust is important and just be earned.

The opening to the underworld being under Los Angeles did make me laugh. Another thing that made me laugh was realizing that nobody wants to give Percy 100% of the truth at any given point. They all only give him what they want and not what he needs. Is this going to backfire on one of these gods telling him half-facts?

Oh! You know what made me cough from laughing so much? Grover’s “Consensus Song”. Oh my gods, that was funny. Then, Percy did it later? Perfection.

I’ve really liked the stuff with Megan Mullally’s Alecto. She’s been down right creepy. I do love how she (and it sounds like other monsters) can die and keep coming back. This is going to be fun. Minotaur coming back and looking for revenge soon?

And, well, Aunty Em’s Gnome Emporium was just delightful. No spoilers here, but it took me a second to grasp who we were dealing with. I always enjoyed Jessica Parker Kennedy on The Arrowverse’s Flash show, and she was delightfully uneasy here. I read today that she was great in Black Sails as well, so maybe I need to give that shot a shot?

A Variety story goes into detail about “Aunty Em” and how they worked to incorporate more of the original story into the show than what was in the original book. But, they also kept in mind the target audience of the show being younger kids. I think it was done well.

We’re excited to keep watching. So far, so good!
