That’s a pretty chimera: Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 4 review

Episode 4 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+ was the shortest so far of the young season, and it also wasn’t my favorite. I think it’s safe to say it was definitely the weakest of the four that we’ve gotten so far. However, that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t enjoyable.

The episode picks up right where the last one left off with Percy, Annabeth, and Grover making their way through the middle of the country out to Los Angeles. They’re riding on an Amtrak on their way to the St. Louis train station. I actually visited that train station in 2022 (not by choice, mind you, but that’s another story). It was fun to see the episode set in St. Louis incorporating the famous Arch and all.

There was some good emotion in this episode, mainly with Annabeth talking about her relationship with her mother Athena. Leah Sava Jefferies did a great job conveying the emotions affecting this young girl dealing with having a god as a parent. It helped show that Percy really isn’t alone in essentially being discarded as a demigod

The bulk of this episode dealt with the kids being hunted by Echidna and the Chimera. I was creeped out and wasn’t expecting the Echidna reveal. Plus, the full reveal of the Chimera was amazing. It looked so cool! That was an excellent design choice all-around if you ask me.

With the ending of this episode and Percy being officially recognized by Poseidon, I’m excited to see where we go next.
