I’ve really enjoyed the Star Trek comics that I’ve had the pleasure of reading lately, and Star Trek: Picard’s Academy — Commit No Mistakes is no different.

The book features a young Picard at Starfleet Academy. His eyes are focused on crushing his school competition and graduating early. However, Picard will learn that many things in life take a team effort, especially a Federation starship.

Picard isn’t the same man that we first met in Star Trek: The Next Generation, and that’s to be expected. Characters need to grow and change, and folks in their… Teens… Twenties… (Exactly how old are they supposed to be here?) change a lot!

My only other experience with author Sam Maggs before this was in Star Wars with her novel tie-in to the Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor games, Jedi: Battle Scars. I liked that book, so I was excited to give this comic a shot. My faith was rewarded.

The artwork was good and lent itself, at times, to looking a little bit like Star Trek: Lower Decks. I’m not 100% sure that the vibe exactly worked for me at all times, but I think it was unique enough to fit the setting of them being in the academy.
