Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures Phase III # 2 | Comic Review

Daniel Jose Older is back again with Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures Phase III # 2, and it’s a grand time. Through Phase I, II, and III, Older has managed to tell captivating stories in the “all ages” book while pulling no punches.

The book picks up following on # 1’s reveal that not only was Lula Talisola alive, but she was acting as a warlord on another planet! When we got that reveal, my mind immediately went to, “Yeah, sure, but there’s a catch, right? We’re not giving her and Zeen Mrala with a perfect reunion, right?” And, yes, there was. While Lula managed to survive the destruction of Starlight Beacon, she developed amnesia from the crash landing, and her instincts kicked in. Her motto became “survive at all costs”.

SPOILERS! Zeen reunites with Lula, and Lula is getting small… feelings rather than memories coming back. But, oh my god, with all of this emotional stuff going on between Zeen and Lula, Qort is outside redirecting missiles with the Force with absolute joy. I love Qort. We better get a Qort and Farzala reunion, Daniel!

I know it’s not a competition between the groups making the Marvel and Dark Horse High Republic books, but it would be impossible to pick a winner month after month. I know that the Dark Horse book is an “all ages” comic, but if you can’t enjoy this book, then you just don’t like Star Wars.
