I was not expecting the big twist in Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures: Dispatches from the Occlusion Zone # 3! Like, at all. That is his you know it’s a good twist.
Our favorite Jedi investigator Emerick Caphtor is behind the Nihil Stormwall in the Occlusion Zone. He’s still investigating the Nameless and has found one of the Republic EX droids. He’s leaving a message for the Republic and the Jedi when he’s captured by Niv Drendow and the Nihil.
After some back-and-forth, Caphtor somehow convinces Drendow to turn on the Nihil and join him. What was promised!? Sounds like just help discovering the secrets of the Nameless.
You can pick up the comic here.
The events of this book were a big shock to me.
I have to admit, I’m still not 100% why Niv Drendow was like “Bye, Nihil. Hello, Republic.” so quickly, but I can say that I was absolutely shocked by it.
I’m not sure where this leaves him for the final run-in and what the future holds but I maintain that the turn was unexpected
Emerick Caphtor is still an awesome Jedi.
I really liked Emerick Caphtor when we were introduced to him in Star Wars: The High Republic: Trail of Shadows from Marvel a couple of years ago. He was different than basically every other Jedi we’ve ever met in that he was essentially a detective Jedi.
One of my favorite things about the High Republic Era is that it’s given the Jedi new talents that are the features of who they are as much as “is a Jedi” is the feature during the later years.
All the pieces are almost in place for the grand finale.
The final wave of books and comics comes for The High Republic publishing initiative this spring. The final table is being set, and we’re very close to all of our characters being in place for the big rush to the end.
It’s been a hell of a run, and I can’t wait to see how it ends.
