The Man From Maybe | Comic Review

I recently read The Man From Maybe by Jordan Thomas and Shaky Kane. This book was wild in a lot of great ways!

The Man From Maybe is set in a post-apocalyptic world and blends a little science fiction with a little horror and a little western. The plot leans into the insanity with an eclectic group of people (humans and aliens) chasing down powerful context that’s in in the move

My least favorite part is the book? I can’t decide whether or not I like the eponymous hero showing his face so much. Part of me loves his costume and mask so much, that I kind of wanted it to feed into the mystery of his character. I think, at the end of the day, I’m ok with it.

Maybe I just wanted more “OH WOW!” in a reveal like that. Did I just want to get psyched up for a character I wouldn’t know? Maybe.

I think this was my first exposure to Shaky Kane’s art. With every (digital) flip of the page, I felt like I was simultaneously looking at something classic and something new. I thoroughly enjoyed the character design, especially if the dinosaur astronaut/bounty hunter people.

This was a weird book! And, that’s totally ok. I had a good time with it, and it felt like a quick read. If you like science fiction westerns, this book is for you.

Thank you Netgalley and Oni Press for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
