Invincible Season 2 | TV Review

I finished watching the second season of Invincible week and had a blast. This show is awesome.

My big question after watching this season is where was all of the marketing? Amazon bombarded everywhere in the lead up to and during the first season. This time around? I’ve barely seen anything. If I didn’t hear the guys over at Heroes Reforged talking about it, I don’t know if I would’ve ever even known it was being released. Super weird.

Anyway, I want to talk about Invincible himself, Mark Grayson. For all of the trials and tribulations that Mark went through in this second season, I think the final conversation with his mom was the best and most important.

Mark had (spoilers) brutally killed Angstrom Levy and was speaking to his mother on the roof of their house. Mark is a hero who believes he’s failed himself and everyone else by losing control, and he’s heartbroken by it. Through tears, he tells his mother:

“I have to get better. I have to learn how to control myself. It’s important. It’s the most important thing I can do. I have to get better. I have to be better.”

Invincible, season 2 episode 8

Honestly, after seeing Man of Steel, this would’ve been the immediate conversation that I would’ve wanted Superman to have after he killed Zod. It was a fantastic demand for a hero like Invincible to ask himself.

There were several other things that I really enjoyed about this season.

  • The voice cast for this show remains second to none. I was just blown away at times by the quality and depth.
  • I loved the stuff with Allen throughout the season. Seth Rogen is really funny in this role.
  • I thought Rex Splode was also a standout for the season, and Jason Mantzoukas crushed it.
  • It felt like so many characters got their own bit of development throughout the season. If you’re a fan of practically anyone, you’re eating good right now.

Maybe I’ll get around to reading the comic one day?
