Star Trek: Discovery: “Face The Strange” | TV Review

This week’s episode of Star Trek: Discovery was “a bottle episode” and a “filler episode”, but it was fantastic bit of television. For my money, it’s the best episode of the season so far.

Remember the tracking device that Mal put on Adira at the end of last week’s episode? Well, it wasn’t just a tracking device. It was also a “time bug” that had the ability to transport the Discovery through space and time. Luckily for everyone aboard, Michael Burnham and Rayner avoided the trap, because they just happened to be trying to beam back to the bridge. Also, Paul Stamets has tardigrade DNA in his system.

The trio had to work together to figure out how to get the Discovery out of the time trap. Wouldn’t you know it, Michael and Rayner are able to use their personal knowledge and information about the crew of the Discovery to get help along the way to solve the problem and save the day!

Of course, this did allow L’ak and Mal to get ahead of them in the chase for the Progenitor’s tech. But, for now, that is next week’s problem.

I loved this episode. As a new Doctor Who fan, I’ve realized that I’m a big fan of timey wimey adventures. This was so much fun, jumping into the Discovery’s and Discovery’s past. It was great to see Airiam again. She was such a unique character, and I miss her.

There are six episodes left in the show. I can’t wait to find out exactly what the Progenitor’s tech is and how it will be destroyed or lost again forever?
