I think my most anticipated show of 2024 remains The Acolyte. It shot to number one the moment that it was announced back in 2020. It’s taken four long years, but we are finally here. The Acolyte comes out this June.
The show from Leslye Headland is set at the end of The High Republic Era, a century before the events of The Phantom Menace. The High Republic Era is a time of relative peace and prosperity for the Jedi and the Republic.
The official synopsis reads:
An investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master against a dangerous warrior from his past. As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems…

An easy speculation based on the trailer is that Lee Jung-jae’s Sol is the “respected Jedi Master” and Amandla Stenberg’s Mae is the “dangerous warrior from his past”.
And who is wielding that red lightsaber that we see? Is it a Sith? Or is it a dark Jedi from another cult?
The series stars Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Carrie-Ann Moss, and Joonas Suotamo (as a Wookiee, of course).
I’ve been reading all of the books and comics set in The High Republic Era, and you can find all of my reviews that I’ve done here. That doesn’t include everything, as I got a late start in reviewing.
The show looks amazing. I can’t wait for June.
