X-Men ’97: Fire Made Flesh | TV Review

Me not knowing a lot of Marvel comic lore always serves me well. I had no idea what to expect on this week’s episode of X-Men ’97, and I thought it was awesome.

When Jean Grey walked into the X-Mansion at the end of last week’s episode, the only thing that I knew for sure was that somebody was not the real Jean. I didn’t know if she was a clone or if somebody was shape-shifting, but I knew that something was wrong.

Of course, we learn that there is indeed a clone and she was created by Mister Sinister. But, wait! It’s the Jean that we have been with these first two episodes and birthed a baby that’s the clone! I was completely shocked to be honest with you.

The fight with Sinister was some great horror work, and the crew should be proud of their work. Everything looked awesome. Sinister is indeed the creepiest villain, and I’m glad that it appears that he’s the “big bad” here. I don’t know much about him, so I’m having a great time. I honestly don’t know how a live-action version of him would ever hold up to the animated one.

The reveal that Clone Jean was The Goblin Queen was glorious like a Sailor Moon transformation. That was glorious work. Jean getting through to her telepathically, and then Clone Jean and Cyclops saving their son from Sinister was fun. I like that Bishop had to take the kid into the future to try and cure the illness he has now.

Oh yeah! Storm and Forge meet up, and he tells her that he can restore her powers! Let’s go!

This show is really great. This is a home run so far. It’s sensational.
